(Includes an hour break for lunch and travel from the classroom to the range; breaks may be combined depending on format)

*Classes may run longer or shorter based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to class size.

Class Format

In Person: The class is held in person, usually with the classroom lecture portion taking place at one of our training sites, and the range portion taking place at a nearby range (locations will be stated in the selection).
Hybrid: The classroom lecture portion is held online via Zoom, taught by a live instructor. Students attend via the Zoom platform. After completing the lecture portion, students and instructors meet together at a nearby range for the range portion.

Description

Our Basic Handgun live fire course is intended as an introductory course for those wishing to improve their confidence and skills, as well as those wishing to move on to more advanced courses, regardless of prior shooting experience. In this class students will get lessons in safety, gun handling, loading and unloading, fundamentals of pistol shooting, various pistol firing positions, with practical exercises to increase proficiency and accuracy. This course is a great addition to concealed handgun courses that do not have a range component.

NOTE: This course is taught by a certified firearms instructor, but does not meet the training requirements for an Oregon CHL.

Handgun and action types
Revolver basic overview
Semi-automatic basic overview
Ammunition basic overview
Ammo and mechanical malfunctions
Firearm safety
Shooting fundamentals such as grip, sight picture, breathing, etc.
How to determine dominant eye
Common stances and their pros and cons
Safe storage of firearms and ammunition
Cleaning and maintenance

Live Fire Range Component Includes:

Fundamentals of stance, grip, and sight picture
Practical tips on how to improve accuracy
Malfunction drills
Shooting from various distances
Long-distance shooting
Repetition to help develop muscle memory

Speed limit on all range roads is 15 mph maximum. They have a no tolerance policy on alcohol, no consumption, and you cannot have any in your vehicle, including empty containers. My wife and I are just getting back into this world and lifestyle and felt it responsible to get as much hands-on training as possible. After some discussion with Ben at TSI, where he was very helpful and patient with our myriad questions, we decided to take this course as a first step toward becoming well-versed and competent handgun owners. While the course was “new” at the time we were very pleased with the content and structure of the day and appreciated the accommodation in time and attention given to us as somewhat “noobs”.Would recommend and will likely be taking additional courses as time allows.
